Adventure Hike Texel

5-7 June 2026 (FULL)

Texel is The Netherlands in miniature. On this island in the north of The Netherlands, you will find a great variety in landscapes: the dunes and beaches on the westcoast; forests, marshes and polders further inland and the unique wetlands on the coast of the Wadden Sea in the east. This variety in landscape guarantees a great variety in plants, birds and other wildlife too. Walking on this island will be a unique experience you will not easily forget!

The Texel Adventure Hike is fully booked. You may sign up for a place on the waitlist.

Texel Adventure Hike

Did you know you can walk from the south to the north of the island of Texel in just two days? We will do exactly that during this two-day hiking adventure. We will walk through a variety of landscapes and likely see plenty of flowers, birds and other wildlife. It will be a wonderful time to connect with nature, with yourself and with others. The hike starts on Saturday, but you may arrive on the Friday, for a more relaxed start of the hike. Accomodation will be provided for two nights only.

Friday June 5 – Arrival

The ferry to Texel leaves from the Teso ferry port just north of Den Helder (10 mins. by bus from the train station). Departures of the ferry are every half hour. Tickets can be bought online at only €3 (this is a return ticket). The ferry takes about 20 mins. to get to Texel. After arrival in Texel, you can take a bus to our accommodation in Den Burg (more about this below). If you travel by car to Den Helder, there is free parking at the port. You may also take your car on the ferry, at an additional cost. Read more about parking in Den Helder here (only in Dutch).

Sat June 6 – Den Hoorn to De Koog (22 km)

This first stage of our hike starts at 10.30am in ‘t Horntje, in the south of Texel. From there, we will hike to De Koog, through the beautiful dunes and forests on the west coast of the island. We will take our time to enjoy the landscape and take regular breaks along the way.

From De Koog we will take a bus to Den Burg where you can relax a bit before we have dinner. We will spend the night in Den Burg again – unless you want to bring a tent and stay at Campsite Kogerstrand, right in the dunes!

Sun June 7 – De Koog to De Cocksdorp (19 km)

On Sunday morning, we will start hiking again at 9.30am, for the second stretch of our adventure. This part of the hike takes us through the nature reserves of De Slufter and De Muy, where the sea enters the land with the tides. This results in a unique ecosystem, with beautiful plants and lots of birds.

We will then reach the northernmost point of the island and walk to De Cocksdorp along the Wadden Sea coast from there. We will arrive at our end point around 4pm and take a bus back to the ferry to Den Helder.

How to prepare for the adventure hike

To make sure everything goes smoothly, follow the steps below if you want to join the Texel Adventure Hike.

1. Register

The first step is to register for the hike on this website. You can do that here. Once I have received your registration, I will send you the invoice for the cost of the hike and your accomodation. The participation fee for this adventure hike is €32,50. Your spot on the adventure hike is secured as soon as I have received your payment. After that, you may still cancel up to 1 month before the hike and get a full refund (i.e. until May 5, 2026). There is no refund after that date.

There are 0/20 spots available on this adventure hike. The hike is fully booked. You may sign up for a place on the waitlist.

2. Your accomodation in Texel

Texel is a very popular destination, so I went ahead and booked a number of shared rooms in the Stayokay hostel in Den Burg. Each room has two bunk beds, so you will share the room with three others from our group. If you prefer a room for two, let me know and I will see what I can do!

The cost of a bed in a shared room is €105,75 for two nights. This includes breakfast, tourist tax and free wifi. Bed linen and towels are available at an additional cost of €10. It is not possible to book only one night.

Alternatively, you may book your own accommodation. You can indicate this on the registration form.

The adventurous option is to book a spot on Campsite Kogerstrand. If you have a small tent (for 1 or 2 people), you can book a Dune Pitch (without electricity) at €38,45 per night. This includes tourist tax and free wifi. Go to ‘View offers and prices’ on the main page to see what is available. This campsite is quite big, so if you decide to go camping, I will let you know in which part of the campsite I will be – to make sure we are not too far apart from each other.

4. Get ready for the adventure

To be able to enjoy this hike without any problems, you need to have at least some experience hiking longer distances, as the hikes are 22 and 19 km long. This means we will be hiking 6-7 hours both days (including breaks). A good way to get ready for this hike is to join a few Nature Hikes before the Adventure Hike. I will make sure to plan a few longer hikes before June.

5. Start packing!

Well, no need to start packing right now, but just make sure you have the right gear, especially if you go camping. I will send you a more detailed packing list closer to the date of the hike, but you will need at least the following items:

  • A tent*
  • A sleeping mat*
  • A sleeping bag*
  • A good backpack
  • Sufficient water (at least 1.5 liters)
  • Lunch and snacks for Saturday and Sunday (you can also buy this at a supermarket in Den Burg, or get a lunch package from the hostel)
  • Hiking gear: good shoes, several layers of clothing (depending on the weather), a rain coat, sun protection, etc.

*only when you are staying at the campsite

If you have any questions about what to bring or how to prepare for this adventure hike, you can always contact me!

I am super excited to go on this trip with you, and I am looking forward to receiving your registration!
