This hike picks up the trail where we left it on March 8, in Culemborg. We then crossed the river Lek. With some luck, we will see apple, pear and cherry trees in full bloom, as they grow abundantly in this area.
Meeting time and place: we will meet at 10.15am at train station Culemborg. The hike ends at train station Beesd, where we will arrive around 3pm.

Saturday, April 11 – Nature Hike De Biesbosch (17 km) – FULL

De Biesbosch is an amazing place to visit. This sweet water estuary and wetland is connected to the northsea and therefore influenced by the tides. Lots of birds and other animals find their home here, including the beaver. The hike starts in Dordrecht, from where we walk to the river Nieuwe Merwede. We will follow its course along the densely vegetated shore. The trail then curves back in the direction of Dordrecht, where we will take a bus back to the train station.
Meeting time and place: we will meet at 10am at train station Dordrecht Stadspolders.

The estates of Duivenvoorde and De Horsten are beautiful year round, but especially in spring. We will enjoy the forest coming to life, with birds singing and trees sprouting new leaves. If we are lucky, we will also see (and smell!) the lilacs on the ‘Seringenberg’ (Lilac hill) in full bloom. Half-way through the hike, we will take a break at the lovely Tea Pavillion De Horsten (see picture above).
Where to meet: this hike starts at 10am at bus stop ‘Vlindertuin’ in Leidschendam. If you come by car, you can park at ‘Vlinders aan de Vliet’ (Veurscheweg 195, Leidschendam). We will be back at the starting point around 3pm.

We will start the hike at the beach in Kijkduin and walk from there to park Ockenburg, where the bluebells grow. After our visit to Ockenburg, we will take a break at Restaurant Pluk, where you can order a drink and/or something to eat. The trail continues through park Madestein and polder Westmade and then back to the beach. We will walk along the coast for a while, until we are back at the starting point in Kijkduin.
Where to meet: this hike starts at 10am at carrousel (draaimolen) Kijkduin, just past the (now closed) NH Hotel Atlantic, close to the beach. This location can be reached by bus line 24 from Den Haag Centraal, stop Kijkduin Strand.

From train station Rhenen, we will cross the river and walk along it for a while, until we cross it again by ferry, taking us to the beautiful wetlands of the ‘Blauwe Kamer’, where we might encounter all kinds of wildlife. After a break, we will continue to climb the Grebbeberg, a 52 meter peak in the hilly forest, towering above the river. We will then return to Rhenen, with the option of visiting this pittoresque old town.

How it works
When you sign up for a hike, you will be placed on the list of participants. Not later than the Monday before the hike, you will receive a payment link. Once I have received the payment, your booking is confirmed.
About three days before the hike, you will receive an email with all the information you need. I will let you know where and when we will start and finish, give you advice on what to bring and anything else you might need to know.
On the day of the hike, we will meet at the starting point, or travel there together, depending on where you live and what you prefer. The group will not be bigger than 20 people. We will hike together, taking time to enjoy nature, the landscape and each other’s company.
The end point of the hike is either the same as the beginning, or in a different location. All locations can be reached by public transport. From the end of the hike, we travel back home.
Cancellations
Any hike may be cancelled due to bad weather (e.g. rain the whole day or storm). In that case, you will get a full refund. If you need to cancel your participation in the hike, you may do so up to 48h before the start of the hike to get a full refund. Cancellations later than that will not be refunded.
